Time Management

Time Management
8 of 10

Master the moments and you may be a real pro when it comes to juggling the many demands on your time--classes, homework and activities -- with some family help. College gives you an even higher chance to sharpen your time management skills by doing it all on your own. And that's a good thing since most jobs require multitasking. You might need to take care of current clients while attracting new ones. Respond to email while working on a major presentation or order tomorrow's produce while planning next next week's menu.

Someone said, "Wherever you are, be there." Focus on the present moment and give it all your attention. Don't let your mind drift and wander here and there when you need to be thinking and concentrating on the moment at hand. You can't go back and recapture this moment, so make the most of it while it NOW. Master the present and you will master the future. Work smart by mastering the present moment.

Speaking Skills

Speaking Skills
2 of 10

When you're assigned a class presentation, think twice before dismissing it as an unimportant part of your education. Employers look for speaking skills in job applicants, who may have to give presentations to clients or represents their organization in the field. It's never too soon to practice good eye contact and other public speaking techniques.

According to The Book of Lists, the fear of public speaking ranks number one in the minds if the majority of people. Far above the fear of death and disease, comes the fear of standing in front of a crowd. Joel Wiener noted author and public speaker wants to help people overcome that fear.
"The biggest fear is public speaking, with 15 percent of America experiencing a dramatic fear of it,"said  Dr. Micheal Telch of the Laboratory for the Study of Anxiety Disorders (LSAD) in the department of Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin. "People have had to turn down jobs, and certainly students have dropped classes because of it." Regardless of your occupation, your success depends a great deal upon your ability to communicate effectively! Whether you're running a meeting, selling a product, making a presentation, motivating co-workers or just communicating one- on-one with others, you'll get far better results if you can speak persuasively, smoothly and intelligently.

Take Control of Homework So it Doesn't Control You

Take Control of Homework
So it Doesn't Control You
Part 2

Keep Things in Perspective
Know how much weight each assignment or test carries, and use your time accordingly. Don't waste time, but be wise and smart. Doing the most important things first is being wise and smart.

Get More Involved
Keep your mind from wondering by taking notes, underlining sections, discussing topics with others or relating your homework to something you're studying in another class. Learn actively and not passively. Be anxiously engaged in your studies and you will have a great experience. Dominate a good attitude toward home assignments, and you will begin to love doing it.

Organize the Information
People process information in different ways. Some people like to draw pictures or charts to digest information, others prefer to read out loud or make detailed outlines. Try to find the methods that work best for you. Ask your teacher for recommendations if you're having trouble.

"Character is higher than intellect."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

REFLECTION: This means that even if you are the smartest person ever you are nothing if you don't have a good personality. If you are a little on the dumber side but you have a great personality you are a greater person. Intelligence isn't anything if you are a bad person.

Take Control of Homework

Take Control of Homework
So It Doesn't Control You
Part 1

Although very few students love homework, it does serve a purpose. Homework helps you:
  • Reinforce what you've learned during the day.
  • Build study habits that are essential in college.
  • Prepare for your classes
  • Get a sense of progress
Here are some tips to help you deal with homework more efficiently and effectively
Set the Mood
Create a good study area with everything you need (for example, a calculator). If you don't have a quiet  place at home, try your school or local library.
Know Where to Begin
Make a list of everything you need to do, and note all deadlines. Do the more difficult assignments first, so you don't have to face them at the end.
Study at the Same Time Every Day
Even if you don't have homework every night, use the time to review notes. If sitting down to work id part of your normal routine, you'll approach it with less dread. Also, you'll become a pro at using time productively.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 5

5. Seek first to understand, and then to be understood.
Because most people don’t listen very well, one of the great frustrations in life is that many don’t feel understood? This habit will ensure your teen learns the most important communication skill there is: active learning.

Why is this habit the key to communication? It’s because the deepest need of the human heart is to be understand. Everyone wants to be respected the valued for who they are a unique, expose their soft middles unless they feel genuine love and understanding. Once they feel it, however, they will tell you know until they know how much you care.

Listen with your eyes, heart and ears. 7 percent of communication is contained in the words we use. The rest comes from body language (53 percent) and how we say words, of the tone and feelings reflected in our voice (40 percent).
Most people are eager to talk and had rather than listen. We have one mouth and two ears. This means we should listen twice as much as we talk. Learn and listen and listen. Listen, really listen, for understanding. Seek first to understand then to be understood—LISTEN.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 1
(by Sean Covey but modified)
Habit 1: Be Proactive.
Being proactive is the key to unlocking the other habits. Help your teen take control and responsibility for her life. Proactive people understand that they are responsible for their own happiness or unhappiness. They don’t blame others for their own actions or feelings. Proactive people realize that the ball is in their court, that they are the captain of their own ship; that they are in control, control of their decisions, thoughts, choices, decisions, goals, actions, and priorities. Proactive people are self-starters; they don’t wait to be told to do, they press forward with enthusiasm toward the achievement of their assignment, their duties, their responsibilities, their obligations. Choosing to do what is right is a proactive decision. Obey the rules. Obey the law. Obey the coach. Obey the school policies. Obey your parents. Obey with exactness, and great things will come to you. Be proactive and take the initiative.

“You make your habits and your habits make you.”
ANON

Reflection: What you do most of the time defines who you are. If you have the habit of talking back and being rude, people will see you as a nasty person. If you always polite and nice to people, people will see you as a great person.
